Adult ADHD and emerging models of maladaptive personality: a meta-analytic review

Abstract Background ADHD is a highly consequential disorder that estimated to affect 2.5% of the adult population. Emerging models psychopathology posit disorders like can be usefully situated within general individual differences in personality, such as those recently implemented DSM and ICD for diagnosis personality disorder. Previous research systematic reviews have linked traits Conscientious Inhibition Negative Emotionality. However, there been some inconsistencies literature embedding ADHD-personality connections DSM-5 ICD-11 has limited. The goal this paper was systematically review associations between traits, organized maladaptive five factor framework. Method A comprehensive search yielded 13 papers whose effects were meta-analyzed. Results supported low high interesting patterns variability observed, potentially related issues instrumentation facet variation. Conclusion support clinical application assessment suggesting risk symptoms, point important directions further research.
